Kristopher J. Motschenbacher is an associate attorney in the Los Angeles office of Manning & Kass, Ellrod, Ramirez, Trester LLP. Kris Motschenbacher is the team leader for the firm’s Military and Veterans Law Practice Group.

Mr. Motschenbacher is an Officer in the United States Army – National Guard Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps assigned as Defense Counsel in Trial Defense Service. He is certified as Counsel before Courts-Martial, an accredited attorney before the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, and an attorney member of the National Organization of Veterans Advocates (NOVA). Mr. Motschenbacher’s prior assignment was Government Counsel to the 40th Infantry Division at the Joint Forces Base in Los Alamitos, California. He has represented Enlisted and Officers in Courts-Martial proceedings, Reprimands, Article 15’s and Appeals, Veterans Claims before the Department of Veterans Affairs, AGR Separation Rebuttals, AWOL, BCMR Filings, Criminal Investigations, and Separation, Reduction and Show Cause Boards. His military litigation achievements consist of dismissal of a high-profile General Courts-Martial case, and multiple successful appeals and rebuttals resulting in no loss of rank to clients.

Mr. Motschenbacher's prior experience inclues practicing workers’ compensation defense, labor and related employment discrimination litigation at all Southern California venues. He has defended claims relating to Labor Code section 132a discrimination, and high profile union cases. Mr. Motschenbacher has achieved for his clients multiple “take nothings” at trials, dismissals of claims and defense verdicts on appeal.

Prior to practicing law, Mr. Motschenbacher worked as a multi-line claims adjuster and licensed hearing representative at Gallagher Bassett handling workers’ compensation, products liability, professional liability, construction defect and personal injury claims. Previous positions included working as a complex workers’ compensation claims adjuster at Crawford & Company.

Mr. Motschenbacher obtained his undergraduate degree in Political Science and Religious Studies with Honors from the University of California, Davis and his Juris Doctor from Roger Williams University School of Law. He was honored as a CALI Award recipient while receiving a Juris Doctor Certificate in Dispute Resolution from Pepperdine University School of Law’s Straus Institute. Mr. Motschenbacher obtained his master’s degree in Ethics and Policy Studies with Honors from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. During law school, Mr. Motschenbacher was a judicial extern in the United States District Court, District of Rhode Island and an intern in the State District Court. In addition, while in law school, Mr. Motschenbacher was a law clerk for Nationwide Insurance Trial Division preparing pleadings and summary judgment motions for state and federal court.

Mr. Motschenbacher is admitted to practice in California, the United States District Court, Central District, and in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims in Washington DC.
